UMBC Baseball Heads to Binghamton for Final Road #AEBASE Series of the Year

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball looks to improve upon their fourth place standing in the America East this weekend against Binghamton in Vestal. The Retrievers are 19-24, 9-9 AE on the year and are just a game up in the win column on the Bearcats in the standings. Most recently, the Retrievers fell 13-11 to Coppin State on Wednesday afternoon.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-The Retrievers are coming off a 13-11 loss to Coppin State on Wednesday and are 19-24, 9-9 AE on the year. The Eagles took an early lead, but a Retriever rally put them in front late. However, Coppin State had the final push with five runs in the eighth to take the lead and hold on for the win.

-Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) leads the Retrievers at the plate with a .396 batting average and is third on the team with 36 hits. Senior Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va.) leads the team with 46 hits and 29 RBI with AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) scoring 27 runs with 41 hits, 21 coming as extra base hits (19 doubles, two home runs).

-Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Appalachian State) leads the team with a 1.71 ERA in 21 appearances. He has thrown a team best 47.1 innings with 59 strikeouts and ten saves. Freshman Aaron Husson (Hawley, Pa.) leads the staff with four wins in 14 appearances this year.

Scouting the Bearcats:

-Binghamton comes into the weekend at 16-27-1, 8-13 AE on the year and will be playing their final America East series of the year against the Retrievers. Most recently the Bearcats swept a midweek double header against Siena on the road.

-CJ Krowiak and Paul Rufo led the Bearcats at the dish with Krowiak leading the team with 47 hits, three home runs and one triple. Rufo has driven in 27 runs. Luke Tevlin and Andrew Eng are batting over .300 at .333 and .318 respectively.

-Robert Brown is the leader out of the bullpen with a 1.17 ERA and three saves in 11 appearances. Nick Wegmann, Nick Gallagher, and Jacob Wloczewski have been the weekend rotation throughout the year and have a combined 8-19 record.

All-Time Series:

-The Retrievers and Bearcats will be meeting for the second time this year, with the Retrievers winning the first series 2-1 in Baltimore. UMBC won the first two before the Bearcats salvaged a win in the finale.

-The two have met 64 times prior to this weekend with the Bearcats leading 45-19.

On Deck:

-UMBC will play their final road and midweek contest against Georgetown on Tuesday, May 15. First pitch at Shirley Povich Field is set for 7 p.m.
