Women's Lacrosse Routs Hartford, 24-3, on Senior Day

BALTIMORE – On a day honoring the class of 2018, the UMBC women's lacrosse team ended the season with a 24-3 victory over the Hartford Hawks. The Retrievers finish the season at 11-6 overall and 3-4 in the America East, while the Hawks end their inaugural season at 1-12 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

 

The Retrievers held an opponent to under five goals for the third time this season, after opening the year with a 16-3 victory over LIU Brooklyn and defeating Siena, 13-3, in March.

 

The Hawks scored the first two goals of the game before the Retrievers opened a six-goal run, including three from senior Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) to take a 6-2 lead.

 

Hartford broke the scoring run to make the score 6-3, but UMBC would score 18 unanswered goals in the remainder of the game.

 

12 Retrievers recorded a point in the outing, led by Jamison with nine off seven goals and two assists. Senior Kalyn Crocetti (Joppa, Md./Maryvale Preparatory) had six points (3g, 3a), followed by junior Lauren McDonald (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) with two goals and two assists.

 

Freshman Rachel Walchuck (Myersville, Md./Middletown) recorded her first collegiate hat trick, while classmates Julia Hatmaker (Woodbine, Md./Century) and Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) each recorded their first collegiate goals.

 

McDonald led the Retrievers with eight draw controls, while senior Caitlin Miller (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) controlled seven. Juniors Catherine Sims (Elkridge, Md./Howard) and Kayla Renehan (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) each forced two turnovers.

 

In goal, senior Kelsey Major (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) moved to 8-5 on the season, making three saves. Junior Carly Tolino (Middletown, Md./Middletown) also saw action between the pipes. Hartford's Cassidy Hock made 11 saves for the Hawks.
