UMBC Baseball Drops Series Finale at Missouri, 5-0 on Sunday

Columbia, Mo.—UMBC baseball dropped the series finale against the Tigers, 5-0 on Sunday. UMBC mustered six hits, but a fifth inning three-run home run closed the door on the Retrievers on Sunday.

The loss drops UMBC to 1-6 while Missouri improves to 10-3 on the year.

Mizzou got things going with a lead off double in the first, scoring the very next pitch on an RBI single through the right side to take a 1-0 lead. After that, both pitchers would settle in, as UMBC starter Chase Bailey (Fairfax, Va./Robinson/William & Mary) kept the Tigers at bay through the middle innings.

UMBC would get a runner on base in each inning from the second through the fourth. After a 1-2-3 top of the fifth, Mizzou extended their lead in the bottom half. A single and a walk put a pair on setting up Brian Sharp, who blasted a three-run home run to extend their lead to 4-0. They would add another in the eighth, holding off UMBC for a 5-0 victory on Sunday.

Six different Retrievers recorded hits on Sunday, with Dalton Stewart (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) had the lone extra base hit, recording a double. Starter Chase Bailey picked up the loss going five innings, giving up four runs.

UMBC will conclude their season opening road swing at George Washington on Tuesday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m.
