Fort Myers, Fla.—UMBC baseball dropped game two of a three game set with the Eagles, 14-3 on Saturday afternoon. UMBC mustered just four hits through the first eight innings, before getting a pair of runs on three hits in the ninth.

UMBC falls to 5-12 on the year while FGCU improves to 17-5 in 2018.

Nick Trabacchi (Smithtown, N.Y.) picked up the loss to move to 0-2 on the year while Josh Dye improves to 4-1.

The Eagles wasted little time, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead.

UMBC answered the next half inning getting a leadoff single from Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va.). He would advance on a Dmitri Floyd (Dover, Del.) groundout and a Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) single. Chris Convers (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) would plate Bright just two pitches later on a single to left to make it 3-1.

From there, the Eagles would score 11 unanswered runs, holding the Retrievers without a hit until the final inning. Jack Finn (Ellicott City, Md./Rider) singled and advanced on a wild pitch to start the ninth. After a Matt Shatto (Lancaster, Pa.) walk, Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) singled up the middle to score Finn for his first career hit and RBI. Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) followed with an RBI single to right to score Shatto to make it 14-3.

Seven different Retrievers recorded hits, with Beeman, Convers and Goodwin driving in runs.

The Eagles and Retrievers will conclude their series tomorrow, Sunday March 25 with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
