Retriever Baseball Opens #AEBASE Play Against Hartford This Weekend

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball will open the America East portion of the schedule this weekend against the Hawks. UMBC will look to defend their America East crown with two games on Saturday and one on Sunday.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-UMBC comes into the contest at 3-9 on the year, fresh off 6-4 comeback victory against Towson on Wednesday. Junior AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) provided the heroics with a two-RBI single in the ninth to push UMBC in front.

-Senior Matt Campbell (Chesapeake, Va.) leads the Retrievers at the plate with a .273 batting average with six hits and three RBI. Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.), Dalton Stewart (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro), and Wright each have nine hits to lead UMBC.

-Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Appalachian State) leads the Retriever pitching staff with a 1.12 ERA and 1-1 record in 16 innings pitched. Schoch leads the team with 20 strikeouts. Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va.), Nick Trabacchi (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Chase Bailey (Fairfax, Va.) will be the rotation this weekend against the Hawks.

Scouting the Hawks:

-Hartford enters the weekend at 1-10 and are 0-9 on the road in 2018. Their lone win came at home in their only home contest. Nick Campana leads the team with .424 average with 14 hits and three doubles. Ashton Bardzell leads the Hawks with seven RBI and three home runs.

-Billy DeVito, Nicholas Domkowski, and Nathan Florence will start against the Retrievers this weekend, and are a combined 0-6 this year. Domkowski leads the team throwing 14.1 innings this year.

All-Time Series:

-Hartford and UMBC have met 58 times prior to this weekend, with the Retrievers leading the series 30-28, going 28-28 in America East contests. Last year, the Retrievers won the series 2-1 up in West Hartford.

On Deck:

-UMBC will return to action with a pair of midweek contests at Mount St. Mary's (Tuesday, March 20) and Coppin State (Wednesday, March 21).
