Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball dropped a 4-2 decision on the final day of the UMBC Baseball Tournament on Sunday. The Retrievers took an early lead, but three eighth inning runs pushed the Pride past the Retrievers on Sunday.

UMBC drops their second straight to fall to 2-9 on the year, while Hofstra improves to 8-2.

Both starting pitchers had great starts to the game as Teddy Cillis and Chase Bailey (Fairfax, Va.) scattered just a few hits through the first three innings. The Retrievers broke through first in the bottom of the fourth.

Matt Campbell (Chesapeake, Va.) reached with a one out single, and advanced to second on an AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) walk. Two batters later, Campbell would score on a Dmirti Floyd (Dover, Del.) single through the right side to give UMBC an early lead.

Hofstra would answer in the seventh, tying the game on a Vinny Costello solo home run. UMBC retook the lead in the bottom of the inning after Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) led off with a walk. Campbell then stepped up to the plate and reached on a fielder's choice. He would advance to second on a throwing error, also allowing Torres to score from third to give UMBC a 2-1 lead.

The Pride would throw the final punch, scoring three in the top of the eighth to take a 4-2 lead. Hofstra would hold UMBC in the final two innings to take a 4-2 victory on Sunday.

Campbell led the Retrievers with a pair of hits, with Floyd and Torres providing the other two for UMBC. Starter Chase Bailey went seven innings, scattering five hits with eight strikeouts.

UMBC returns to action on Wednesday, March 14 at Towson. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
