Swimming and Diving Finishes Day One of Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. - The UMBC swimming and diving teams completed day one of the Patriot Invitational on Thursday, November 15. The men sit in sixth place with 159 points and the women are in seventh place with 98 points.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED - WOMEN

Haylee Committe, Emily Vance, Tonia Papapertrou, and Maddy Popalis placed eighth in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:37.11.  

 

In the 500 free, Hania Moro (New Cairo, Egypt) earned a silver medal after she touched in with a time of 4:56.83. Laura Massicotte (Quebec City, Quebec) finished fifth in a time of 5:00.06. Natalija Marin (Belgrade, Serbia) came in 21st in a time of 5:07.31.

 

In the 200 IM, Massicotte and Natalie Davis (Austin, Texas) finished 15th and 20th, respectively. Massicotte touched in with a time of 2:08.82, while Davis reached the wall in 2:09.19.

 

Committe and Popalis finished 20th (24.26) and 21st (24.39) in the 50 free. Papapertrou came in 23rd in a time of 24.49.

 

In the 400 medley relay, Vance, Popalis, Marin, and Committe finished eighth in a time of 3:51.84. Davis, Lily McCoy, Sotiria Neofytou, and Moro touched the wall in 3:57.99 for 13th place.

 

In the 3 meter dive, Abby Biddulph (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) finished 10th with a score of 202.60. Devin Gromen (Crofton, Md./Arundel) and Isabel Rayner (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) finished 15th and 16th.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED - MEN

Jonah Pennington, Satori Dobbie, Connor Ganley, and Tiago Asakawa took eighth in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:24.44.

 

Kai Wisner (Syracuse, N.Y.) finished seventh in the 500 free, touching in with a time of 4:37.47. Matt Bennici (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) finished 15th overall with a time of 4:40.57.

 

Alexander Gliese (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) earned silver in the 200 IM, reaching the wall in 1:52.09. Luis Galvan Cardenas (Torreon, Mexico) came in 24th with a time of 1:56.86.

 

Ilia Rattsev (Moscow, Russia) took home gold in the 50 free, touching in with a time of 20.38. Asakwa finished fifth in 20.79.

 

Gliese, Galvan Cardenas, Asakawa, and Rattsev touched the wall sixth in the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:22.25. Garrett Wlochowski, Kai Vilbig, Jack Carlisle, and Dobbie finished 11th in a time of 3:27.08.

 

In the 1 meter dive, Elijah Wright (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) finished fifth with a score of 236.25. Leo Buoye (Spencerport, N.Y.) came in seventh with a score of 220.20.

 

UP NEXT

The Retrievers will return to the pool tomorrow, Nov. 16 for day two of the Invite. Preliminaries will be at 10 a.m. with finals beginning at 6 p.m.
