BALTIMORE - The UMBC Swimming and Diving teams split a dual meet against the William and Mary Tribe on Saturday afternoon. The women picked up a 158-139 victory, while the men fell narrowly with a score of 150.5-143.5; heading into the final event of the day, the Retrievers led the Tribe, 139.5-137.5.

HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN

The relay team of Emily Vance, Maddy Popalis, Sotiria Neofytou, and Haylee Committe took second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.24.

Hania Moro (New Cairo, Egypt) took first in the 1000 free, touching in with a time of 10:14.87. Vanessa Esposito (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) finished fifth in the time of 11:00.10.

In the 200 free, Moro and Laura Massicotte (Quebec City, Quebec) finished one-two, with times of 1:51.45 and 1:54.44, respectively. The pair also finished in the top spots in the 500 free with times of 5:00.10 (Moro) and 5:04.01 (Massicotte).

Emily Vance (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) and Natalie Davis (Austin, Texas) finished two-three in the 100 back. Vance finished in a time of 58.69, while Davis finished in 59.39.

In the 100 breast, Maddy Popalis (East Petersburg, Pa.) finished first in a time of 1:07.51, while Lily McCoy (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) finished fifth with a time of 1:09.45.

Natalija Marin (Belgrade, Serbia) touched in first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:04.77, while Britt Driscoll (Wallingford, Conn.) finished fifth in a time of 2:11.60.

Committe finished second in the 50 free, touching the wall in 24.28. Tonia Papapertrou (Nicosia, Cyprus) and Torie Wang (Mountville, Pa.) finished four-five with times of 24.59 and 25.49.

In the 100 free, Committe touched in first with a time of 52.45, while Papapertrou finished third with a time of 53.44.

Caroline Sargent finished fourth in the 200 back, touching in with a time of 2:07.85, while Davis finished fifth in a time of 2:08.37.

In the 200 breast, Popalis (2:28.50), McCoy (2:29.96), and Holly Driscoll (Wallingford, Conn.) (2:31.78) finished three-four-five.

Marin finished first in the 100 fly with a time of 56.72, while Sotiria Neofytou (Limassol, Cyprus) finished third (58.43) and Kelly Lajoie finished fifth (59.00).

The Retrievers swept the top four spots in the 200 IM, with Massicotte finishing first in a time of 2:08.34. She was followed by Davis (2:10.25), Lajoie (2:11.52), and Aleasha Knight (Ottawa, Ontario) (2:12.00).

In the 400 free relay, the team of Papapertrou, Moro, Popalis, and Committe finished first in a time of 3:30.51.

In the diving events, the Retrievers swept both disciplines. In the 1 meter dive, Devin Gromen (Crofton, Md./Arundel) finished first with a score of 237.60, followed by Abby Biddulph (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) (234.90) and Isabel Rayner (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) (178.88).

In the 3 meter dive, Biddulph finished first with a score of 225.51, followed by Gromen (222.98) and Rayner (191.48).

HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN

Alexander Gliese, Luis Galvan Cardenas, Tiago Asakawa, and Ilia Rattsev finished first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:31.24

Kai Wisner (Syracuse, N.Y.) finished first in the 1000 free with a time of 9:37.28, while Haythem Abdelkhalek (Ariana, Tunisia) finished fifth in a time of 10:03.78.

Rattsev finished first in the 200 free, touching in with a time of 1:40.95, while Jonah Pennington (Kingwood, Texas) finished fifth in a time of 1:45.99.

Gliese and Garrett Wlochowski (Manchester, Conn.) finished one-two in the 100 back, touching in with times of 50.17 and 51.29, respectively. The pair also finished in the top two spots in the 200 back with times of 1:48.05 (Gliese) and 1:53.12 (Wlochowski).

Galvan Cardenas and Kai Vilbig (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) finished three-four in the 100 breast, touching in with times of 58.98 and 59.85, respectively.

Matt Bennici (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) finished second in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.29. Jack Carlisle (Cape Town, South Africa) and Mac Hoskins (Columbia, Md./Mount St. Joseph's) finished four-five, touching the wall in 1:54.58 and 1:55.41, respectively.

In the 50 free, Asakawa finished second with a time of 21.05. Connor Ganley (Ellicott City, Md./Mount St. Joseph's) finished fifth in a time of 22.22.

Rattsev finished second in the 100 free, touching in with a time of 46.18.

Galvan Cardenas finished second in the 200 breast, touching in with a time of 2:08.46.

Wisner and Gliese finished two-three in the 500 free, with times of 4:41.81 and 4:44.72, respectively.

Carlisle finished second in the 100 in a time of 51.70, while Asakawa and Satori Dobbie (Christchurch, New Zealand) tied for third in a time of 51.72.

In a thrilling finished, Rattsev tied for first place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.40. Galvan Cardenas finished fifth in a time of 1:57.10.

The 400 free relay team of Asakawa, Dobbie, Carlisle, and Pennington finished second in a time of 3:08.36.

On the board, the Retrievers finished one-two-three in both disciplines. ElijahWright (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) finished first in the 1 meter dive with a score of 278.55, followed by Leo Buoye (Spencerport, N.Y.) (254.02), and Ben Parker (Lawrenceville, Ga.) (244.20).  

In the 3 meter dive, Wright finished first with a score of 327.52, followed by Parker (275.17) and Buoye (273.00).

ONTO THE NEXT ONE

The Retrievers will return home on Thursday, October 25 as they host crosstown rivals Towson at 4 p.m.
