Men's Cross Country Completes Final Prep for Post-Season at Princeton Invite

Princeton, N.J. – UMBC's Kelsey Ponton (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) continued her outstanding campaign, as the senior placed 23rd in a field of 222 competitors at the Princeton Invitational.

 

Ponton posted a career-best time of 22:09.6, chopping over 30 seconds over her previous top mark, recorded at the Paul Short Run two weeks ago. She was the second America East runner to finish in a field that included Stony Brook, UMass Lowell and Binghamton.

 

Senior Matt Kingeter (Glencoe, Md./Hereford) led the men's side for the second consecutive meet, placing 64th overall in the 8k race.

 

On the women's side, junior Kaya Knake (Canton, Mich.) was the second Retriever finisher, placing in the top half of the field (101st) with a mark of 23:30.08. Freshman Morgan Casey (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery-Blair) came was 14 places behind Knake at 23:44.7.

 

Seniors Nathan Nadal (Silver Spring, Md./Wootton) and Eric Smart (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) were the men's next two finishers in 84th (25:37.8) and 93rd (25:50.4) respectively.

 

Both teams will compete in the America East Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Nashua, N.H.
