Worcester, Mass.—The UMBC swimming and diving team continued to roll at the America East Championships, as senior Emily Escobedo shattered the school record in the 200 IM.
"Today was an exceptional day. I am so proud of our program," head coach Chad Cradock said after day two. "The ladies really deserve to compete the way they are right now. We could not ask for a better group of ladies to enjoy this ride with."
Escobedo broke not only the school record, but the meet record as well in the 200 IM, touching in at 1:55.66, earning an NCAA B cut in the process. Laura Massicotte took fourth in 2:03.11 with Kayla Lilly (2:03.24) and Aleasha Knight (2:04.67) going five-six in the A finals.
Hania Moro picked up a big win in the 500 free, touching the wall in a time of 4:51.72. Alissa Caulfield and Carly Waters finished six-seven in the event with times of 5:00.19 and 5:04.94 respectively.
Lauren Day and Haylee Committe earned spots in the A finals of the 50 free. Day finished in fourth place with a time of 23.81, while Committe finished fifth in 23.82.
The Retrievers remain in first place with 303.5 points, ahead of New Hampshire in second with 259. Vermont (227), Maine (160) and Binghamton (119.5) round out the field.
Day three of the final commences from WPI with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
