Retrievers Suffer Setback Against Navy on Friday

BALTIMORE, Md. – UMBC swimming and diving fell to the Navy Midshipmen on Friday, October 13 at UMBC Aquatic Complex. The men suffered a 157-135 setback, while the women fell 168-127.

 

The men's 200 yard medley relay team of Alexander Gliese, Luis Galvan, Philip Adjeumo, and Jared Vance started the day with a second place finish, touching in with a time of 1:33.49.

 

Sophomore Ilia Rattsev (Moscow, Russia) won the first individual event for the men, taking first in the 200 free with a time of 1:40.49. Rattsev also took first in the 50 free (21.07) and 100 free (46.25).

 

Gliese took first in the 100 back, touching in with a time of 51.32 and the 200 back in a time of 1:49.78. Adejumo came in second in the 100 fly, touching in with a time of 50.76, just .03 seconds off first place.

 

The women's 200 medley relay team also started the day with a second place finish as Emily Vance, Maddy Popalis, Natalija Marin, and Laura Massicotte touched in with a time of 1:47.77.

 

Marin earned individual wins in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.69 and the 100 fly with a time of 56.42. Junior Hania Moro (New Cairo, Egypt) earned first in the 1000 free (10:14.99) and 500 free (5:01.66), while taking second in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.43.

 

On the boards, sophomore Abby Biddulph (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) earned first place in the 3 meter dive with a score of 221.93. Classmate Devin Gromen (Crofton, Md./South River) earned second in the 1 meter dive with a score of 219.97.

 

The Retrievers will be back in action on Saturday, October 21 when they travel to Towson to take on the Tigers in a 1 p.m. meet.
