BALTIMORE, Md. – The UMBC women's soccer team picked up a big win on Thursday night, taking down Big South Conference-favorite Liberty, 1-0 at Retriever Soccer Park .The Retrievers move to 2-1-0 on the season, while the Lady Flames fall to 0-3-0.

The lone goal of the game came from freshman Nikki Saad, her second of the season. After classmate Jessica Hopkins collected the ball and sent it into the middle of the field, Saad was able to beat out a defender to make it to the loose ball. From roughly 22-yards out, Saad sent the ball up and into the net for the score.

Liberty had a good chance to tie things up in the first half, when but had it called back on a hand ball foul.

Overall, the Lady Flames out-shot the Retrievers, 26-6, in the 90 minute period, including a 15-4 margin in the first half. Liberty also won the corner battle, taking six shots to UMBC's three.

In the goal, sophomore goalkeeper Leah Roth tallied a career-high 13 saves, while Liberty's Holly Van Noord took the loss with one save.

After a tough loss to Loyola on Sunday, head coach Leslie Wray thinks this win is result of hard work and dedication from the team.

"We talk about going through the process and working as a team, staying focus and staying discipline and if you do that, good things will happen. Tonight, I think we stuck true to that plan," Wray said.

UP NEXT FOR THE RETRIEVERS: UMBC will head out for a four-game road stretch, starting with a Sunday matchup at UNCW. The game is set to being at 1 p.m.
