UMBC Women's Basketball Travels to Youngstown State for the WBI Quarterfinals on Saturday

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC women's basketball will travel to Youngstown State, fresh off their 61-49 win against Fairfield on Thursday at the RAC in the WBI First Round. The Retrievers got another strong performance from junior post Pandora Wilson (Gaithersburg, Md./Academy of Holy Cross), scoring 26 points adding eight rebounds in the win.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-UMBC picked up their first postseason victory in program history with a 61-49 win against Fairfield on Thursday night. Junior tandem Pandora Wilson (Gaithersburg, Md./Academy of Holy Cross) and Taylor McCarley both hit double figures, scoring 26 and 18 to guide UMBC to the victory.

-The Retrievers are third America East and rank 37th in Division I in turnover margin (+3.58). McCarley ranks 11th in DI in free throw attempts (226), 15th in free throws made (166) and 49th in assists (159).

-McCarley (14.9 ppg) and Pandora Wilson (14.8 ppg) led the Retrievers in scoring. Wilson is chipping in a team-best 7.5 rebounds per contest, while McCarley is adding 5.1 assists and 2.5 steals.

Scouting the Penguins:

-Youngstown State enters the contest with the Retrievers at 20-12 on the year, and most recently defeated America East foe Stony Brook, 67-60 on Wednesday in Ohio. The Penguins had four in double figures, led by Janae Jackson and Sarah Cash with 16 and nine, and 17 and seven respectively. YSU held the Seawolves to just 35 percent shooting from the field, including 17 percent (3-17) from distance.

-The Penguins are led by Cash, who is averaging 14.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest. Cash has started and played in every game for Youngstown State, and is shooting a scintillating 60 percent from the field on the year. Nikki Arbanas and Indiya Benjamin are both hitting double figures, with averages of 11.1 and 10.0 per game each. The Penguins average just over 65 points per game while opponents are scoring a shade over 63 a contest.

All-Time Series:

-This will be the first time that Youngstown State and UMBC will meet.
