Atlanta, Ga.—UMBC baseball had seven hits, but could not overcome a four run fourth inning in a 9-2 defeat. Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./John Carroll/Chestnut Hill) went 2-3 with a walk in the loss, as UMBC falls to 1-5 on the year.

The Retrievers got the scoring started in the third inning. Freshman A.J. Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) started the inning with a single. He advanced a couple pitches later on a wild pitch, and got all the way to third on a Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) ground out. The very next batter, Wright crossed the plate on an RBI ground out by Tim Kelly (Hampton, Va./York/Virginia Tech).

Georgia Tech answered right back in their half of the fourth, putting up a four spot that included a two-run home run.

UMBC got one back in the sixth after Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) led off with a double down the left field line. He would later score on a Wright ground out. 

However the Yellow Jackets would get two in the seventh and three in the eighth to earn the 9-2 win.

Naumann had a pair of singles with a walk, while Wright and Kelly each had an RBI. Starter Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) went six innings, giving up seven hits and four earned runs.

UMBC and Georgia Tech close out the set tomorrow, February 28 at 1 p.m.
