Worcester, Mass.—UMBC swimming and diving completed the first day of the 2016 America East Championships at WPI on Thursday. The Retriever 200 medley relay took gold as the Retrievers sit in second place after day one.
The quartet of Lauren Day, Emily Escobedo, Amanda Day and Kristie Langford touched in in a time of 1:41.26. Their time broke the meet and conference record.
The 800 free relay team of Catherine Frediani, Allie Caulfield, Hania Moro and Laura Massicotte placed second in a time of 7:23.01. New Hampshire won the event in a time of 7:16.14.
On the boards, Coco Darelius took home second in the 1 meter dive with a score of 214.55. Maggie Preston of Vermont won the event with a score of 248.90.
After one day, New Hampshire is in first with 125 points. UMBC is right behind them with 102 points. Vermont (99), Maine (86) and Binghamton (61) round out the five team field.
Day two will begin with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
