FAIRFAX, Va. – UMBC women's soccer eliminated a one-goal deficit with a score from junior forward Destinee Morris (La Plata, Md./La Plata) in the 59th minute, but the Retrievers surrendered the game-winning goal with 45 seconds remaining in the second overtime to fall, 2-1, to UNC Wilmington on day two of the George Mason Tournament on Sunday afternoon at George Mason Stadium.

UMBC red-shirt junior forward Alexa Quaranta (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after registering an assist versus the Seahawks.

The Retrievers drop their fourth game of the season by one goal to fall to 1-4-1 on the year, while UNC Wilmington improves to 3-3-0 on the campaign.

UNC Wilmington outshot the Retrievers' 10-2 in the opening half, but the two teams entered the break scoreless after 45 minutes of action.

UMBC senior goalkeeper Jen Nance (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) registered a season-best eight saves on the day, but Kennedy Ulrich was able to finish a shot into the upper left corner of the net in the 48th minute to put the Seahawks out in front 1-0. Sydney Sawaya tossed the throw in to Katrina Guillou for the centering pass to set up Ulrich for the score.

Quaranta and sophomore forward Rachel Lyon (Ortanna, Pa./Gettysburg Area) combined to set up Morris' first goal of the season in the 59th minute to even the score at one apiece. Nance registered five of her eight saves in the second period to help the Retrievers send it to overtime.

UNC Wilmington was not able to net one of its three shots in the first overtime, but connected on Madison Melnick's second shot of the contest, this one from five yards out off a pass from Stephanie Bronson with 45 seconds remaining in the second overtime.   

Seahawks' goalkeeper Carolyn Huddy made two stops in the win. UNC Wilmington finished the day with 29 shots, compared to the Retrievers' seven attempts.

UP NEXT FOR THE RETRIEVERS: UMBC hosts the first night of the Battle of Baltimore on Friday, Sept. 11. The Dawgs host a contest between Towson and Mount St. Mary's at 5 p.m. before the Retrievers take on Loyola at 7:30 p.m. at Retriever Soccer Park.
