Brossman Named America East Rookie of the Week

Boston – UMBC redshirt freshman Zoe Brossman was named the America East Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Brossman recorded her second assist of the season when she helped set up junior forward Payton Schenning's goal, which gave the Retrievers a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the game.

Schenning opened the scoring for UMBC with a powerful shot from 12 yards out, finding the net only 5:58 into the match. This goal marked her third of the season. The play started when senior midfielder Delainey Varela-Keen intercepted a pass at the 25-yard line and quickly found freshman Delainey Proctor a few yards ahead. Proctor then passed the ball to Brossman, who centered it to Schenning, who was unmarked. Schenning's shot hit the inside of the right post and deflected off Bulldogs' goalkeeper Shannon Mejia, who had attempted a diving save to her left. With this performance,

Brossman increased her season totals to eight points (three goals and two assists), which ties her for 15th place in the league.

The Retrievers will travel to Maine on Sunday at noon.
