BOSTON, Mass. – The UMBC women's tennis team will be the No. 2 seed as play opens in the 2015 America East Women's Tennis Championship on Friday, April 24th at noon on the campus of Binghamton University, at the Binghamton Tennis Center.

The Retrievers will have a bye into the semifinals and open play on Saturday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. when they take on the winner between No. 3 Albany and No. 6 Hartford.  UMBC defeated Hartford, 7-0, in Baltimore on March 22 and did not face the Great Danes in 2015.

In addition to the victory over Hartford, the Retrievers defeated fourth-seeded Binghamton, 6-1, on April 12, and edged No. 5 NJIT, 5-2, back on February 1. UMBC just dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 1 seeded Stony Brook on Long Island on April 20.

UMBC's best conference performer throughout the year was Mariami Dolashvili (Alushta, Ukraine); the sophomore went 4-0 in America East singles matches and 11-5 overall at the No. 2 flight. She also won two doubles matches in conference being paired with junior Shannon Cleary (Little Bay, NSW, Australia). Cleary earned First Team America East honors in doubles in 2014.

The partnership of senior Isabel Aldunate (Bowie, Md.) and junior Madlena Kurasz (Zlotoryja, Poland) also won two doubles matches against America East Conference opponents. Aldunate, the team captain, is the lone senior on the squad in 2015.
