UMBC Falls, 1-0, Against St. Joe's on Friday. Fall to 4-1 on the Year

Baltimore, Md.—The UMBC women's soccer team fell in a hard fought 1-0 loss to St. Joseph's on Friday. UMBC had some chances late, but could not find the net. The Retrievers fall to 4-1 on the year, while the Hawks improve to 2-3.

In the opening stanza, St. Joe's got jumped on an early chance, but the header went just over the bar. The Retrievers got a chance just minutes later, but Jessy Brown's (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) shot was saved by keeper Allison Ebling. The Hawks got the only other good chance late, as they peppered Jen Nance (Millersville, Md./Severna Park), but Nance was up to the task.

The Hawks led in shots, 6-2 after the opening frame. Nance made three saves in the first half, with Ebling saving one.

The second half saw UMBC jump on a chance early. Meg Kowalski (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township had a shot that sailed just wide of Ebling. The Hawks would punch in on a counter attack midway through the stanza; with Emily Gingrich placing it past Nance in the bottom right corner to give St. Joe's a 1-0 lead. The Retrievers had a chance in the 57 minute, as what they thought was a goal, was disallowed after a foul in the box. Amira Walcott had the final chance of the evening, but her attempt sailed just left.

Nance made three saves in the contest, as Kowalski paced the Retrievers with three shots on goal.

UMBC returns to the pitch against Mount St. Mary's in the Battle for Baltimore. The Retrievers square off with the Mountaineers Friday, September 12 from Loyola at 5:00 p.m.
