Women's Soccer Set to Open America East Play at Binghamton on Sunday Afternoon

  • UMBC lost 3-0 against the Navy Mids on Sunday evening at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
  • UMBC started strong in the opening stages of the match but was unable to convert their chances.
  • In the 8th minute, junior forward Payton Schenning, who led the team with three shots, took a great strike from 20 yards after evading a defender, but her shot sailed just over the far post.
  • Just four minutes later, junior forward Grace Dunbar made an excellent cross from the right side for Schenning, but Navy goalkeeper Natasha Stramrood denied Schenning's header from the center of the box.
  • Navy scored three goals in the first half and cruised to the victory.

  • UMBC is currently fourth in the America East with a .550 winning percentage.

  • Binghamton has allowed just eight goals in eight games and has two shutouts in its last three contests.
  • Up front, sophomore Jahkaya Davis and junior Paige Luke are tied atop the conference with 12 points. Davis leads the league with five goals and Luke leads with four assists.
  • Junior keeper Rebecca Kessler is the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week and has a paltry 0.86 goals against average. She leads the conference in GAA and ranks second in save percentage (.833).

  • The Bearcats hold a commanding 18-2-2 lead in the all-time series.
  • The Retrievers have dropped eight straight against Binghamton. Their last win was a 3-1 decision on 10/20/16 in Baltimore.

  • Binghamton needed a ferocious rally last October to post a 4-3 win in Baltimore. In that game, Lauren Clark scored the game-winner with just 24 seconds left to cap an improbable comeback after Binghamton fell behind 3-0 just seven minutes into the contest.
