BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's soccer team looks to get back on track when it returns home on Friday, Sept. 19 to play host to Delaware State. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Retriever Soccer Park, with all the live action available free of charge on UMBCRetrievers.tv courtesy of the America East digital network.
Retriever Soccer Park Promotion
-Free women's soccer posters and schedule cards will be available at the Sports Marketing table. A student raffle giveaway will take place at halftime for an Under Amour gift pack, with tickets available at the Sports Marketing table.
Scouting the Retrievers (5-2-0)
-UMBC split a pair of contests in the Battle of Baltimore tournament over the weekend. The Retrievers opened up with a dominating 6-0 victory against Mount St. Mary's, but fell in the finale to Towson, 2-0.
-Junior goalkeeper Jen Nance posted a career-high 10 saves in the loss to the Tigers, the highest saves total for a Retriever since Lauren Kadet posted 11 stops against Stony Brook on Oct. 14, 2012.On the season, Nance has a pair of shutouts and ranks 40th in the country in save percentage (.857). The Retrievers' backline has helped the netminder to post a 0.88 goals against average.
-Senior midfielder Lilly Rydon continues to pace the Retrievers offensively, tallying her first-collegiate multiple-goal effort on Friday against the Mount. Rydon has scored a team-best four goals, with two representing game-winners. Rydon and classmate Paige Preston were named to the Battle of Baltimore All-Tournament Team.
-Senior backs Melissa Hummel and Morgan Taylor got in on the offensive action over the weekend. Hummel tallied a pair of helpers in her first action of the season on Friday, while Taylor also chipped in her second assist of the year in the contest.
-The Retrievers have received points from 12 different players, including goals from seven members. UMBC is averaging 1.86 goals per game on the season.
Scouting the Hornets (2-6-0)
-After dropping its first five games of the 2014 campaign, Delaware State has won two of its last three contests, including 1-0 victory against Wagner on Sunday.
-Freshman forward Paige Wilcox has scored two goals in the last three games, both representing game-winners, to lead the team with three scores and six points.
-Goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky is coming off a six-save shutout against the Seahawks for her seventh-career clean sheet. The senior has seen a majority of the action in net for the Hornets and has totaled 56 saves and a .800 save percentage.
Inside the Series
-The Retrievers are a perfect 4-0 in the all-time series against Delaware State, including three victories on the Dawgs' home field.
-UMBC has averaged 6.3 goals per game against the Hornets.
