Men's Cross Country Opens With Sold Showing at Mount 5K Duals

Emmitsburg – Five UMBC competitors finished in the top 11 collegiate finishers as the men's cross country squad opened the 2014 season at the Mount 5K Duals at Mount St. Mary's University.

The Retrievers finished 2-0-1 in the competition, besting American (22-37) and the host Mountaineers (15-49) and drawing with Navy at 28 points apiece.

Junior Austin Haysett (Mount Airy, Md. / Urbana) led the Retriever across the line, placing fourth overall in a time of 15:28.08. Sophomore Jon Luckin (Parkton, Md. / Hereford) and junior Hassan Omar (Frederick, Md. / Thomas Johnson) were just behind, crossing the tape in 5th (15:29.49) and 6th (15:34.96) respectively.  

Senior Eric Schuler (Columbia, Md. / Reservoir) made the top ten, placing ninth and clocking in at 15:39. He was UMBC's fourth finisher, while senior Matt Rever (Timonium, Md. / Dulaney) rounded out the top five, placing 11 th of the attached runners in a time of 15:42.11.

UMBC will see Navy amongst other squads when they travel to Annapolis to compete in the Navy Invitational on Sept. 13.
