BALTIMORE- Eight of the nine matches were nail-biters, but
visiting Binghamton prevailed in seven of the eight and defeated
UMBC, 6-1, at the UMBC Tennis Complex.
UMBC sophomore Daniel Gray (The
Bullis School) posted the Retrievers lone point, defeating Florian
Van Kann, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.
UMBC's Nos. 1 and 3 doubles duos both fell, 8-6, to their
Bearcat counterparts.
Four of the six singles matches went the distance, but Gray was
the lone Retriever to prevail. Freshman Melker Svard
(Gothenburg, Sweden) and senior Gaulthier
Berret (Lagny Sur Marne, France) each won their first sets at
Nos. 2 and 4 respectively, but could not hold off their foes.
Alexander Maisin edged Svard, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, while Ismael Dinia got
past Berret, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.
Freshman Alex Drean
(Bayonne, France) came back after losing the first set, and knotted
the match with Robin Lesage, but Drean's countryman prevailed, 6-2,
4-6, 7-5.
UMBC (7-8) completes the regular season at Temple on Sat., April
20.
