First Place UMBC Women's Soccer Looks to Hold Off UMass Lowell

BALTIMORE – UMBC women's soccer travels to conference-newcomer UMass Lowell on Sunday, Oct. 20 as the Retrievers look to remain atop of the America East Conference standings with three games remaining in the regular season. Game time is set for noon at Cushing Field.

After dropping the conference opener to Maine, the Retrievers (9-4-2, 4-1-0 AE) have won four straight to move into a tie for first place with Hartford. Red-shirt junior Jessy Brown (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) tallied her fifth game-winner of the season in Thursday's 2-1 double overtime victory against Stony Brook.

Brown and sophomore forward Alexa Quaranta (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) each have a team-leading 11 points on the season, with five goals and one assist apiece. Freshman midfielder Meg Kowalski (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) dished out two assists against the Seawolves to bring her season total to five points, while junior back Melissa Hummmel (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) leads the squad with four helpers.

UMass Lowell is winless on the season with a 0-14-1 overall mark and an 0-5 record in league play. Junior goalkeeper Jane Hatzikonstantis ended a 204 minute shutout streak in Thursday's 2-0 loss to New Hampshire. UMass Lowell has been blanked in each of its last three contests heading into Sunday.

Eight different River Hawks have scored on the season, with Brittany Russo and Taylor Packwood being the only two to notch multiple goals on the year.
