LEESBURG, Va. – Both the UMBC men's and women's cross country teams placed fourth, repectively, at the Mason Invitational, Saturday morning at Outlands Plantation.  Sophomore Eric Schuler(Columbia, Md./Reservior) led the Retriever men in the 8K race with a time of 26:26.9 to take 18th place while junior Cody Mezebish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) led the women's squad, finishing 16th with a 6K time of 23:42.7.

For Schuler, it was his first time pacing the Black and Gold as he barely beat out teammate Tom Eldridge (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) across the line.  Eldridge took 19th with a time of 26:29.0 just ahead of junior Vinny DiSalvo (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) who took 23rd place.  Freshmen Hassan Omar(Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) and Austin Hayslett (Mount Air, Md./Urbana) were the next Retrievers across the line, finishing in 25th and 26th.

In Virginia, Mezebish led the Retrievers across the line for the second time this season, after leading the team at the Salty Dog Invitational two weeks ago.  Behind the captain, freshman Nicole Dawson (Jessup, Md./Hammond) once again put it a strong run, finishing 20th with a time of 24:01.8 while junior Kirsten McGovern (Sykesville, Md./Century) and sophomore Sarah Daly (Lake Orion, Mich/Lake Orion) finished just behind in 22nd and 23rd, respectively.  Freshman Harmony Roche (Millersville, Md./Severn School) completed the scoring for UMBC.

UMBC now has the week off from competition before heading to Princeton, N.J. for the Princeton Invitational on Oct. 13.
