BALTIMORE – The UMBC men's tennis team dropped a 6-1
decision to three-time defending America East champion Binghamton
on Saturday evening at Twin Lakes RC.
The match was moved to the indoor complex after rain fell in the
Baltimore area in the morning and early afternoon hours.
Binghamton improved to 5-13 with the win, while UMBC dropped its
second straight match and fell to 10-5.
The Retrievers dropped the No. 1 doubles contest, 8-3, but the
Nos. 2 and 3 matches were tightly contested. However, both UMBC
tandems dropped 8-6 decisions.
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets. UMBC got
on the board when No. 5 sophomore Gaulthier
Berret (Lagny Sur Marne, France) edged Ruben Haggai, 6-4, 7-5.
Retriever junior No. 4 Joe
Adewumi (Phoenix, Ariz.) played a tightly-contested match,
but fell, 7-6, 6-3 to Alexandre Haggai.
The Retrievers continue their five-match homestand on Saturday,
April 9 vs. Norfolk State.
