Men's Soccer Suffers 2-0 Setback at Navy

Annapolis, Md.—After scoring 10 goals in their first three games, the UMBC mens's soccer team (2-2-0) failed to dent the scoreboard and suffered a 2-0 setback at Navy on Saturday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

Navy (3-0-0) scored a late first half goal in the 42nd minute to take a 1-0 lead into intermission. The Mids added a score in the 73rd minute and held off a late surge from the visitors to post the victory.

Navy outshot UMBC, 15-11, including 10-8 in the final 45 minutes. Retriever sophomore netminder Phil Saunders (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) was credited with four saves in the contest.

Sophomore forward Andrew Bulls (Millersville, Md./McDonogh) led UMBC with three shots.

Due to an injury suffered in the first half at Towson on Wednesday, senior captain John Paul Waraksa (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) saw his streak of 22 consecutive starts in games he had dressed for come to an end. The outstanding defensive midfielder did not appear in tonight's contest.

The Retrievers return home for a night contest at UMBC Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Retrievers will take on La Salle at 7:00 p.m. Please visit www.wnst.net for a coupon featuring reducing ticket prices for the UMBC-La Salle match.
