Annapolis, Md.—After scoring 10 goals in their first three
games, the UMBC mens's soccer team (2-2-0) failed to dent the
scoreboard and suffered a 2-0 setback at Navy on Saturday night at
the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
Navy (3-0-0) scored a late first half goal in the
42nd minute to take a 1-0 lead into intermission.
The Mids added a score in the 73rd minute and held
off a late surge from the visitors to post the victory.
Navy outshot UMBC, 15-11, including 10-8 in the final 45
minutes. Retriever sophomore netminder Phil
Saunders (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) was credited with
four saves in the contest.
Sophomore forward Andrew
Bulls (Millersville, Md./McDonogh) led UMBC with three
shots.
Due to an injury suffered in the first half at Towson on
Wednesday, senior captain John Paul
Waraksa (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) saw his streak of 22
consecutive starts in games he had dressed for come to an end. The
outstanding defensive midfielder did not appear in tonight's
contest.
