Baltimore--Sophomore midfielder Dustin Dzwonkowski (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored his first career goal in the 73rd minute as host UMBC (2-1) edged Lipscomb (1-2), 1-0 in the nightcap of the 2008 adidas Kick Off Classic at UMBC Soccer Stadium.
Navy's Wes Powell scored with 38 seconds to play in the first overtime period to give the Midshipmen (1-1-1) a 2-1 win over Adelphi (0-3) in the first game.
UMBC will take on Adelphi at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday after Navy opens the day's play vs. Lipscomb at noon.
Dzwonkowski, who saw action in only six games a year ago, came off the bench in both halves. On the game-winning goal, he calmly volleyed and short cross from junior Ime Umoh (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) from 22 yards away over the hands of goalkeeper Patrick Walsh and into the left corner of the net.
Lipscomb was unable to manage a dangerous chance down the stretch and UMBC netminder Steve King (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) recorded his first shutout of the season and the 18th of his career.  He made three saves, while Walsh made a pair for the Bisons.
The shots were even in the game at eight each, with the best chance in the first half occurring in the sixth minute as UMBC junior forward Andrew Gillis (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) hit the crossbar from close range. Umoh had two good chances in the second half, but he hit the post in the 62nd minute and Walsh made a diving save on his 16-yard drive five minutes later.
Navy's Chris Marino and Adelphi's Patrick Figueiredo exchanged first half goals before Powell gave the Mids their first win of the year with a 22-yard bullet, which skimmed in just inside the far left post in the 100th minute of action.
