Accolades: Named UMBC’s Most Improved Player in 2008.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2009: Tied for third on the team in goals (3) and points (8), scoring seven of those points in a critical four-day span during conference play… Two of his three goals were game-winners, and four of his five career tallies are GWG’s… Spearheaded the Retrievers’ 2-1 upset win at Boston Univ. on Oct. 21… Thirty seconds after Boston had taken a 1-0, his flick to Levi Houapeu set up the game-tying goal in the 71st minute… Less than five minutes later, he scored his first goal of the year as Houapeu set him up for a blast into the corner of the net from just inside the box… Recorded his first multiple-goal game on Oct. 24 vs. Albany, scoring the second and fifth goals in a 5-1 rout of the Great Danes… Notched an assist in the 6-0 win over St. Joseph’s on Sept. 6… Competed in all 20 games and started six. 

 

 

 

 

2008: Tied for third on the team with six points on two goals and two helpers… Competed in 16 of 17 games and earned five starts at midfield… Scored his first career goal, the game-winner, in the 73rd minute as UMBC edged Lipscomb, 1-0, at the adidas Kick-Off Classic… Followed up with the primary assist on Andrew Bulls’ overtime goal in the 3-2 win over Adelphi… Earned All-Tournament team honors… Assisted on Bulls’ game-winning goal in the 1-0 win over La Salle… Recorded the eventual game-winning tally in the 61st minute as the Retrievers hung on for a 2-1 win over Mount St. Mary’s… Suffered a broken bone in his hand and did not play in the shootout at Albany, but returned for the final four contests of the season.

BACKGROUND: Majoring in media and communication studies... A starter for the 2006 MIAA “A” Conference champion Friars… Despite playing a defensive role, he managed four goals and five assists as a reserve in 2005 and five goals and seven helpers in 2006… Has traveled to England and Italy to compete, and his club team won the Arsenal Festival in England… Also lettered in track and field at Curley… A member of the Quill and Scroll and National Honor societies… Considered Northeastern, among other choices, but selected UMBC “because of the coaching staff, great facilities and the overall feel of the place”… Likes spaghetti and the music of the Dave Matthews Band… Son of John Dzwonkowski… Dustin Joseph Dzwonkowski was born on May 26, 1989.
