The Retrievers overpowered Appalachian State (0-2), 25-18, 25-22, 25-19 in the first game of the day, hitting 42 kills compared to the Mountaineers' 29.

In their second match of the day, the Retrievers came back after dropping the first set, 25-23, to win the second and third sets, 25-18, and 25-19 to take the lead before the Eagles took the fourth set, 25-22, to tie the match.

UMBC jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the fifth and final game behind Lang's serve, but the Eagles fought back and tied the set at 13. After an Eagle service error, sophomore Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Washington/AG West Black Hills) finished off the match with her game-high 18th kill to seal the victory for UMBC.

Lang recorded her second double-double of the day with 17 kills and 19 digs, while sophomore Bridget Scheetz (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) added 14 kills.
