Stony Brook, N.Y.--The UMBC men's soccer team dropped the season finale, 2-0 at Stony Brook. The Retrievers finished the season at 6-9-2 overall and 1-6-1 in the America East Conference, while the Seawolves completed their campaign at 3-12-4 and 1-4-3 in league play.
Stony Brook scored in the 24th minute as Michele Aquino headed in a cross off the post and just over the goal line. The Retrievers created four good scoring chances in the second half as they cranked out 15 second half shots. Kevin Gnatiko's left-footed attempt went over the goal in the 64th minute and B.J. Quigley's game-tying attempt a minute later missed an open goal to the left side. Freshman Andrew Bulls fell victim to a pair of outstanding saves by goalkeeper Dawid Ditrich as he made a save off a Bulls’ blast in the 70th minute and punched his free kick attempt over the crossbar two minutes later. The Seawolves scored the insurance goal with 10 minutes remaining as Tom Butler beat UMBC keeper Steve King to a loose ball and converted to seal the victory.
Each team had 21 shots and King posted nine saves in the contest. Bulls (six) and Gnatiko (five) combined for 11 of the Retrievers' 21 opportunities.
