Albany Trips Up Men's Soccer, 3-1

Albany, N.Y.- Host Albany scored twice in the first eight minutes of play and went on to post a 3-1 victory over UMBC in America East Conference action.

The loss snapped UMBC's three-game unbeaten streak and the Retrievers fell to 3-6-2 overall, 0-1-1 in league play. Albany is now 4-4-2, 2-0-0.

Erik DiLorenzo scored at the 4:21 mark and Yan Gbolo tallied at the 7:52 mark to give the Great Danes a 2-0 margin in the early going. Albany held that lead and halftime and took a 3-0 lead when Stephan Hall converted a DiLorenzo feed just 1:10 into the second half.

UMBC would get on the board midway through the half (61:58) as sophomore midfielder Kevin Gnatiko scored on a penalty kick opportunity. The Retrievers, playing without starting defenders Bryan Moffa and L.J. Pijnenburg, did manage to put four shots on goal in the final 45 minutes, but three of four were turned away by Albany netminder Steward Ceus. Retriever goalkeeper Steve King also had four saves in the UMBC net.

UMBC returns to action on Saturday when they host pre-season league favorite Vermont at 1:00 p.m.
