The UMBC women's basketball team (3-5) heads to Farmville, Va., Saturday to take on Longwood (4-6) at 3 p.m.
RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC is coming off their most lopsided loss of the season, falling to Navy, 74-56, Wednesday evening. The game was the Retrievers' last at home before the new year. UMBC was a victim of poor free throw shooting, as the Retrievers shot just 48.4 percent (15-for-31) from the line. UMBC was also out-rebounded 43-28. Senior point guard Brittnie Hughes scored a career-high 23 points (8-for-13), accounting for 41 percent of the Retrievers' offensive output. Senior forward Sharri Rohde scored just six points, breaking a five-game double-figure scoring streak, but she still leads the team with 13.8 ppg.
LANCER UPDATE: The Longwood Lancers are coming off a 59-52 loss to UMES on Wednesday and are 4-6 on the season. Abigail Freese scored a game-high 17 points (7-for-14) in the loss, while Odessa Williams added 13 (5-for-7) off the bench. Williams leads the team with 8.8 ppg. The Lancers have lost three in a row and six of their last seven games.
