UMBC Hosts Towson Tuesday Night in Women's Basketball Action

The UMBC women's basketball team (1-2) hosts its third consecutive crosstown rival when Towson (3-0) comes to the RAC Arena Tuesday night for a 5 p.m. showdown. The game will be televised regionally on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.

The Retrievers are coming off a thrilling 58-56 victory over Loyola on Nov. 17. Junior forward Amanda Robinson hit a jumper with 2.1 seconds left to give UMBC the win. Senior point guard Brittnie Hughes scored a career-high 21 points, shooting 7-for-13 from the floor, including a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range, to lead all scorers.

The Tigers are off to their best start in eight years and are coming off a 69-57 win at American on Nov. 19. Guard Holly Mahan leads the team with 16.3 ppg, 7.7 rpg and 17 steals. Towson was picked to finish 11th in the Colonial Athletic Association preseason poll.

Tuesday night marks the 41st meeting in the series. Towson holds a 29-11 edge and has won the last two matches. The last time the two teams faced was Dec. 28, 2004, when the Tigers downed UMBC, 60-43. The Retrievers last defeated Towson on Nov. 23, 2002, a 55-42 decision.
