MEN'S SOCCER OPENS AMERICA EAST PLAY WITH 2-0 SHUTOUT OVER HARTFORD

West Hartford, CT -  UMBC (4-3-1, 1-0 America East) got second half goals from junior forward David Feazell and sophomore midfielder Matt Watson and the Retrievers opened America East Conference play with a 2-0 win over host Hartford (2-5-1, 0-1).

With the win, the Retrievers snapped an eight-game winless streak on the road.

UMBC had seven shots in the first half, but Hawk netminder Ryan Carr made several outstanding stops, including parrying a pair of Matt Watson shots over the crossbar.

But Feazell was able to push the ball over a lunging Carr into the right side of the net for the eventual game-winning goal at the 55:03 mark. It was Feazell's fourth score of the season, setting a new single season high. Seven minutes later Watson connected on one of his five shots in the game, scoring in a 25-yard rocket shot into the top-right corner of the net.

Shots and corners were even at ten and six apiece respectively. UMBC freshman netminder Steve King got his first collegiate start and responded with a three-save shutout.

UMBC is now 4-1-1 in its last six games.
