Albany, NY--Forward Yan Gbolo scored in the 49th minute of play, and Great Dane netminder Bouna Coundoul made it hold up as Albany (6-1-1, 1-0 AE) blanked UMBC (4-1-1, 0-1 AE), 1-0, in the conference opener for both teams.

Gbolo slipped a shot past a charging Andy Marchica from 20 yards out. UA outshot UMBC, 13-12, and Coundoul made 3 saves as the Retrievers were shutout for the first time this season. Marchica had 4 saves for UMBC.
