NAVY SNAPS WOMEN'S SOCCER'S FIVE-GAME WIN STREAK, SHUTS OUT RETRIEVERS, 3-0

The Retrievers' five-game winning streak came to an end as Navy (12-3-1) shut out UMBC (5-6) by a score of 3-0, this afternoon at the UMBC Soccer Stadium. It marked the Retrievers' first loss since September 27, when they dropped a 2-0 decision at Boston University.

In today's match, freshman Carmen Myers' unassisted goal at 41:20 proved to be the game winner. Myers, who took a serve from freshman teammate Meggie Curran during a corner kick, initially headed the ball towards the goal, but made contact only with the crossbar. Taking her own rebound, Myers attempted to shoot once again, and managed to get the ball into the left corner, past Retriever keeper Robin Babaris (Ontario, Canada/Sir Oliver Mowat).

Navy would add insurance goals in the second half, courtesy of junior Nicole Waggoner at 50:39, and senior Amelia Sheveland at 75:01.

For the game, Navy outshot UMBC 20-4. Babaris made 10 saves at the Retriever net, while Kim Bonafede (81 min.) stopped two for the Midshipmen. Haley Crain, who played the last nine minutes at the Navy goal, did not face any shots.
