WOMEN'S SOCCER TAKES FOURTH STRAIGHT; NIPS VERMONT, 1-0

Baltimore, MD—Junior forward Missy Moore scored in the 40th minute of play and a rejuvenated UMBC team (4-5, 2-3 America East) made the goal stand up, as the Retrievers edged visiting Vermont (5-4-3, 1-2-1), 1-0, in an America East match-up.

UMBC, which started the season at 0-5, has now won four straight, including a pair of conference wins this week. The game had been re-scheduled from the original date of September 19, due to Hurricane Isabel.

Both teams had their opportunities in the first half, but Moore was the only player to convert. UMBC put some solid pressure on in the Vermont box, and a loose ball squirted to Moore at the eight-yard line, who beat Vermont starting netminder Tori Boughton inside the left post.

The pace slowed somewhat in the second half, and Moore's apparent insurance goal in the 75th minute was nullified because of an offsides call. The Catamounts applied some late pressure, taking a pair of late corners, but could not get a high quality scoring chance against UMBC netminder Robin Babaris.

Babaris made five saves to record her second solo shutout of the season. She is unscored upon in her last three outings, and has a scoreless streak of 339 minutes, dating back to a 2-1 win over Rider. Boughton made a pair of first half saves for Vermont, and Katie Duffy added two in 45 minutes of work in the second half.
