UMBC WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS HOME OPENER TO LEHIGH, 2-1

Baltimore, MD-On a breezy day at the UMBC Soccer Stadium, the Retrievers suffered a heartbreaking loss as Lehigh forward Lauren Day (Putnam Valley, NY) found the back of the net in the 88th minute to lead the Mountain Hawks to a 2-1 win over UMBC (1-3). Lehigh (2-4) established an early lead after freshman Hedy Kishel (Dix Hills, NY) rebounded a shot that deflected off Retriever keeper Robin Babaris (Ontario, Canada), sending it straight to the center of the goal. UMBC would trail for most of the game until sophomore Missy Moore (Silver Spring, MD) scored her first goal of the season in the 78th minute. Both Lauren Cunningham (Baltimore, MD) and Lori Quintavalle (Haddonfield, NJ) were credited with the assist. However, the score would remain tied for only four minutes, as Day broke away for an unassisted goal with 1:11 remaining in the game. 1 2 F Lehigh 1 1 2 UMBC 0 1 1 Goals: Lehigh- Kishel ,13:57; Day , 88:49 UMBC- Moore (Cunningham, Quintavalle), 78:20 Saves: Lehigh- Iwaskiewicz (90 min., 2 saves, 1 goals allowed) UMBC- Babaris (90 min., 4 saves, 2 goals allowed).
