Brooklyn, NY--Host LIU scored two goals in a span of 7:17 midway through the second half and held off UMBC, 2-1, in a key NEC game. LIU improved to 6-4 overall, 4-1 in the NEC, while the Retrievers fell to 7-5-2, 4-1-1.
The loss ended a six-game unbeaten string for UMBC (4-0-2). Wendell Parris' rebound goal for LIU at 64:12 snapped a strong of 352 scoreless minutes for UMBC. Then, at 71:29, Casey Madigan defelcted in a cross to put the Blackbirds ahead, 2-0. The Retrievers would rally late, as midfielder Michael Joseph scored his fourth goal of the season at 87:35, lofting a shot over LIU netminder Ryszard Gorski after receiving a long lead pass from Matt McGowan. But UMBC could not get the equalizer in the final moments of play.
Netminder Brian Rowland made five saves for UMBC, which was outshot, 17-10.
