WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT GEORGETOWN

Georgetown University (7-2) hit 15 of 23 second half shots and went on to a 69-47 non-conference win over UMBC (4-5) at McDonough Gym in Washington, DC. The Retrievers gave GU a battle in the first twenty minutes, using a 21-12 run to cut a 13-point deficit to 30-26 with a minute to play in the half. The Hoyas led 32-26 at intermission, and then opened the second half on a 13-4 run to build a 45-30 lead. UMBC would close within 57-44 with 5:15 to play, but Georgetown closed the game on a 12-3 spurt to garner the victory. UMBC hit 9 of 18 shots (4 of 8 from behind the arc) in the first half, but made just 10 of 32 (1/9 from three-pt. range) in the final 20 minutes. GU hit 28 of 48 shots for the game (58.3%). Millette Green was the lone Retriever in double figures, scoring a season-high 12 points and adding 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in 34 minutes. In her first action of the season, JR guard Shalayna Johnson was 3 of 9 from the floor (1/5 3-pt. range) for seven points.
