GRINSPOON'S GOAL AT 89:02 PROPELS WOMEN'S SOCCER INTO THE NEC FINALS

Loretto, PA--Junior Nicole Grinspoon scored the game-winning goal with 58 seconds left as #2-seeded UMBC (11-5-2) nipped #3 Monmouth, 2-1, to advance to Sunday's NEC title game. The Retrievers will take on #4 Sacred Heart, a 2-1 (OT) upset winner over #1 Quinnipiac in the first semi-final. Grinspoon scored the GWG off a corner kick, taking a pass from Laura Motley before beating MU goalie Abby Shiffler. She had opened the scoring, knocking home a 15-yarder off an assist by sophomore Jessa Karko at 16:29. The Hawks would tie the game at 23:28 on a rebound goal by Lucy Slosek. The Retrievers outshot MU, 13-3, and UMBC netminder Becky Hicock made 1 save in the win. The Retrievers are now unbeaten in their last 12 games (10-0-2). They fell earlier in the season, 2-0, at Sacred Heart.
