Biography

2014: Hannah ended her illustrious career with UMBC in grand fashion... She appeared in every match, including starts in all of those matches... She ended the year with 216 kills (.142 hitting percentage), good for second most on the team... Tied a career high with 19 kills in the five set win at Hartford in October... Hannah chipped in 171 digs, including a season high 18 against Albany on October 17... Recorded two double-doubles on the year against UMass Lowell (12 and 11) and Albany (11 and 18)... Registered career kill number 1,000 against Binghamton on October 19... Finishes her career in 8th in All-Time kills with 1,054; and is 7th in All-Time attempts with 3,117.

2013: Chosen as a member of the 2013 America East All-Conference Second Team… Played in 30 of UMBC’s 31 matches, taking to the court in a career-high 117 sets… Recorded 302 kills for the second consecutive season, placing second on the team… Also scooped up 301 digs, one off of her career-high set as a sophomore in 2012… Registered a double-double in both of UMBC’s America East Championships matches to bring her season total up to ten and earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team… Matched her career-high with 19 winners in the conference title match against New Hampshire, a five-set loss for the Retrievers… Sent down 15 kills and scooped up 11 digs in the semifinal sweep of Albany… Put away 27 total winners in UMBC’s victories over tournament host Loyola (Md.) and LaSalle at the Radisson Cross Keys Greyhound Challenge on Sept. 7… Terminated 17 points and scooped up 14 digs as UMBC won for the first time against Albany at University Gymnasium on Oct. 11… Equaled her offensive production with 17 winners on Oct. 20 as the Retrievers defeated Providence in four sets at the RAC Arena… Named the America East Player of the Week on Oct. 21 following victories over Hartford and Providence… Selected to the 2013 America East All-Academic Team.

2012: One of three Retrievers to play in all 30 matches and 115 games during her sophomore campaign… Posted a conference-best 49 service aces as a sophomore… Recorded seven aces against New Hampshire on Sept. 28… Led the team with 302 kills while also picking up 302 digs, the second-highest total on the team… Finished the year with a team-high 11 double-doubles… Recorded three straight double-doubles from Oct. 5-14 against Hartford, Albany, and Stony Brook… Matched her career-best with 18 kills while also registering ten digs as UMBC defeated Albany on Nov.2 for its first win over the Great Danes since 2007… Scooped up a career-best 18 digs in the America East semifinals against Binghamton… Posted 19 double-digit dig contests.

2011: Named to the America East All-Rookie Team... Played in 24 matches, making 14 starts as a freshman for the Retrievers... Finished second on the team and seventh in the America East with 234 kills, just one off the team lead... Also tallied the seventh most points (267.5) in the conference... Recorded her first career double-double with 18 kills and 13 digs against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 10... Registered her second double-double less than two weeks later with 12 kills and 14 digs against America East rival Stony Brook... Tallied double-digit kills in 12 matches... Recognized on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll. 

Background: Named 2010 Player of the Year by the Baltimore Sun and by the Varsity Sports Network… Led Mount de Sales to the IAAM “A” Division Championship from 2008-10… Honored as an IAAM “A” Division All-Star her junior and senior years… Named to the Baltimore Sun All-Metro First Team in 2010 and Second Team in 2009 and was a Player to Watch in both seasons… A member of the National and National English honor societies and was a Maryland Distinguished Scholar Honorable Mention.

Personal: Daughter of Paul Schmidt and Bernadine Zienkiewicz… Has an older brother, Matthew… Brother played two years of volleyball at Juniata… Major is undecided… Born March 13, 1993.
