Biography

2013: Started the final four games of theseason… Appeared in eight games… Registered her onlytwo shots of the season versus No. 4 Hartford in the America EastSemifinals… After missing the first seven games due toinjury, came off the bench for her first appearance of the seasonversus Bucknell... Named to the America East Honor Roll. 

2012: Made 12 appearances and 11 starts on theseason… Missed five games due to injury… Recordednine shots, placing five on goal… Tabbed a season-best twoshots against Stony Brook… Nearly registered her first goalof the season to put the Retrievers out in front of Vermont, butwas robbed by the goalkeeper’s fingertips tipping the ballwide… Tallied a shot on goal against Maine… Picked upa point on an assist on Amy Savage’s goal at Hartford...Named the team's Most Improved Athlete at the varsity banquet.

2011: Started all but one game in her sophomorecampaign… Eight of her nine shots were placed ongoal… Tallied two shots versus both Hartford and NewHampshire… Named to the America East Honor Roll.

2010: Saw action in 12 games for theRetrievers… Scored her first career goal against GeorgeMason, blasting a high-arching shot from 28 yards out… Tookthree shots on the season, including two on goal… Recognizedon the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Background: Earned Second-Team All-County honorsas a senior… Led the Cavaliers to back-to-back IAAM‘A’ Conference titles in 2008 and 2009…Archbishop Spalding was undefeated (20-0-1) in 2009, resulting inlocal No. 1 rankings from The Sun and WashingtonPost, as well as top-5 national rankings from ESPNRise and the NSCAA… Scored the game-winning goal in the2008 conference championship game… Led her club team, LaurelUnited Premier, to the 2005 national regional title… Scoredthe game-winner in the 2006 WAGS Tournament championshipgame… Also scored the winning goal in overtime to advanceher team to the State Cup finals in 2007… An honor rollstudent… Daughter of Bob and Denise Smith… Fatherplayed soccer at UMBC in 1974 and 1976… Has two olderbrothers, Brian and Bobby, and an older sister, Kate… Is thefifth member of her family to attend UMBC… Born Dec. 29,1992… Majoring in media and communication studies and hopesto pursue a career in broadcast journalism.
