Biography

AS A JUNIOR (2015-16): Started in 15 of her 31 appearances... Finished the season averaging 1.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game... Scored six points in each of the first two games of the year against Columbia (Nov. 13) and Penn (Nov. 15)... Put up five points with three steals and four assists in 33 minutes at Hartford (Jan. 21)... Chipped in five points and three rebounds in the WBI First Round against Fairfield (Mar. 17). 

AS A SOPHOMORE (2014-15): Voted one of the team’s three captains… Averaged 5.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game… Saw action in 28 games, with 26 starts… Her 49 steals rank seventh all-time among UMBC sophomores… Ranked eighth in the America East in steals per game (1.8)… Tallied 11 points and four steals versus UMass Lowell (Feb. 7)… Returned to the lineup for the America East opener against UMass Lowell (Jan. 8) after missing the final three games of the non-conference season… Missed the first game of her career against Penn due to illness… Registered eight points, four rebounds and four assists at UMES (Dec. 22)… Knocked down two-of-four shots from beyond the arc and finished with 12 points versus Rider (Dec. 18)… Snapped a two-game scoring skid with 11 points at Columbia (Dec. 5)… Reset her career-high with 14 points against Robert Morris (Nov. 23)… Snagged five steals versus Coppin State (Nov. 19)… Did a little bit of everything for the Retrievers versus Loyola (Nov. 16), scoring eight points, pulling down eight boards, dishing out eight helpers and snagging four steals... Named to the America East Honor Roll.

AS A FRESHMAN (2013-14): Started a team-high 28 games on the season... Set top-10 marks in program history for a freshman in assists (93), steals (48), three-point field goals made (24) and three-point field goals attempted (85)... Ranked third in the league in minutes played (34.4), fifth in assists (3.2) and seventh in steals (1.7)... Posted six double-digit scoring games and one double-digit rebounding game... Led the Retrievers in steals in 14 games and assists in 12 contests, piloting the team in both categories... Made a half-court shot at the end of the first period of the America East Championship quarterfinal matchup against Stony Brook that was an ESPN Sports Center Top 10 Nominee... Played all 50 minutes of a double-overtime contest at Binghamton (March 1) and finished with 10 points and six rebounds... Scored 11 of her season-high 13 points in the second half versus Vermont (Feb. 16)... Hit seven-of-nine free throws against the Catamounts and added five rebounds, four steals and two assists... Snagged a season-best six steals at UMass Lowell (Feb. 8)... Registered 12 points and added a game-high five assists against Hartford (Jan. 25)... Narrowly missed out on a triple-double versus UMass Lowell (Jan. 11), finishing with a career-high 10 rebounds, nine points and a career-high seven assists... Averaged 4.0 helpers in the two games of the James Madison Invitational... Sprinkled the stat sheet versus VCU (Dec. 7), finishing with seven points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals... Registered 11 points for the second-straight game, while also adding two assists at Coppin State (Nov. 13)... Knocked down four-of-six shots, including three-of-four from beyond the arc, to tally double-digit points (11) in her collegiate debut against Eastern (Nov. 11)... Added six rebounds, four assists and two steals versus the Eagles... Named to the America East Honor Roll.

HIGH SCHOOL: Competed as a member of the women’s basketball team at Glenelg High School… Suffered a season-ending leg injury during her senior season… The 2011-12 Howard County Player of the Year… An All-Metro First Team honoree as a junior and second team selection as a sophomore… Led her team in points (422), steals (4.4 spg) assists (3.4 apg) and shooting percentage (.570) during her junior campaign… Helped to pilot the Gladiators to consecutive county and District V titles before losing in the regional championship games… Tallied 965 career points in three seasons… All-Howard County First Team recognition as a sophomore, helping Glenelg to a 24-2 season… Played AAU for the Maryland Grizzlies… Guided the Grizzlies to three Maryland AAU Division I State Championships and the 2011 championship at the USA Invitational at Penn State… Two-time All-County First Team selection (2010-11) and a three-time state champion as a member of the Glenelg field hockey team… Baltimore Sun named her to the All-Metro First Team in 2012… A member of the 2010 county champion lacrosse team and a Second Team All-County player for the Gladiators… A member of the National and the National Spanish Honor Society… An AP Scholar… A honor roll student.

 PERSONAL: Daughter of Mike and MaryBeth Russo… Younger sister of Jeffrey and Nicholas… Has played basketball since age seven and piano since age 10… Majoring in biology… Hopes to do work in cancer research.
