Biography

Accolades: (2012) Earned a slot on the America East Fall Academic Honor Roll. 

2015: Played in four games during the 2015 season.

2014: Unable to compete due to injury, and expects to return for a fifth year in 2015. 

2013: Came on strong down the stretch and started the final eight games of the season at the holding midfield position for UMBC… Competed in 13 games during the season… Only played 18 minutes in UMBC’s first 10 games, but ended the year with 513 minutes played… Logged all 90 minutes in his second start, a 1-0 victory over UNH on Oct. 19.

2012: A preseason medical issue curtailed his early season playing time, but he did see action in 11 games… Often entered the game as a substitute for Dave Vaeth in holding midfield position… Played a season-high 64 minutes in the 1-0 win at Mount St. Mary’s on Sept. 7.

2011: Struggled with injuries in the preseason and during the campaign and competed in parts of seven contests… Made his first appearance in Game No. 3 vs. FDU and earned his first collegiate start on Sept. 10… Competed in two more games before he was shut down for a month (nine games)… Returned to the lineup vs. Stony Brook on Oct. 26 and started at midfield, playing 73 minutes in America East first round match vs. Hartford.

Background: Majoring in American studies... Has competed for the United States Soccer Development Academy Baltimore Bays since 2007… Took part in 2011 U-17/18 Championships in Milwaukee,from July 9-16, 2011, where the squad placed fifth nationally… A Baltimore Sun First Team All-Metro selection in 2010 and earned All-State and All-MIAA First Team honors in 2008, 2009 and 2010 The defensive midfielder scored seven goals and added three assists for Calvert Hall in 2010… Scored two goals, including the game-winner as Cardinals rallied from 3-0 deficit to defeat rival Loyola-Blakefield, 4-3, in 2010… College Soccer News rated him as a “Top Recruit”, while he was ranked No. 23 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer…Has been a part of the United States’ national team program since 2006, competing in training camps and friendly matches across the country and in Mexico… Tabbed a “Rising Star” in Soccer America in 2006… A volunteer in CHC’s Peer Education program… Considered many of the nation’s top programs, but selected UMBC “because everything just seemed to fall into place, from the outstanding coaching staff and players to the academics; it is just the right place for me”… Enjoys reading, writing, and other sports… Lists favorite professional team as Tottenham Hotspurs and favorite movie is Gladiator…Has two older brothers, Nick and Craig… Son of Barb and Nick Wenger… Born March 18, 1993.
