Biography

Accolades: (2011) Named to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Second Team while competing for Loyola... (2013) Earned America East Player of the Week honor on Sept. 23… Shared Coaches’ Award with Spencer Williams and Marquez Fernandez, which is given to student-athletes who exemplify the highest standards on the field and in the classroom... Selected to America East Fall Honor Roll. (2014) Named to America East First Team... Selected to All-Tournament Team at Doubletree Classic. 

2014: Scored the game-winning goal on a free kick late in the regular season contest against Hartford... Started 15 contests of 21 contests... Suffered lower body injury and did not dress for final three games of regular season... Did return for the NCAA Tournament... Totalled four goals on the season, including two against LIU... Tallied nine points for the Retrievers in his final collegiate campaign. 

2013: Led the Retrievers and the America East Conference in assists (8, 0.40 per game)… Added four goals to finish third on the team and fifth in America East in scoring (16 pts., 0.80 per game)… One of five players to start all 20 games…  Debuted with a two-assist effort versus Seattle and scored his first UMBC goal in the second contest against UNLV… Produced three consecutive multiple-point efforts with two helpers at Radford on Sept. 14 and scored a goal and added an assist in subsequent contests at home against Navy and at Loyola (Md.)… Scored UMBC’s first game-tying goal of match in 62’ in NCAA Tournament contest versus UConn… Led UMBC with five shots in that game.  

2012: Matriculated at UMBC, but did not compete.

2011: Led the 10-6-2 Greyhounds with 18 points, netting seven goals and adding four helpers… Also scored four game-winning goals… Scored both goals in a 2-0 win over St. Peter’s on Oct. 9… Recorded goals in three consecutive league games and in four of five contests… Loyola was 7-0-1 when he hit the scoring column.

2010: Originally matriculated at George Mason University… Saw action in seven games as a freshman.

Background: Plans to major in psychology at UMBC… Earned First Team All-MIAA (2007-09), First Team All-State (2008-09) and First Team All-South (2009) honors at Mount St. Joseph… At the club level, competed for the Baltimore Bays and earned three national titles… Excelled in the PDL this summer (2013) for the Baltimore Bohemians, scoring four goals and adding seven assists in 14 games played… Lists favorite move as Rocky and favorite pro side as Barcelona… Two older brothers, Vincent and Marco competed in soccer at Stevenson (Md.) University… Also has a younger sister, Sophia… His father, Nello, competed in soccer for the Loyola Greyhounds and was part of 1976 national championship squad… Son of Lisa and Nello Caltabiano… Born Oct. 9, 1992.
