Biography

2008: Suffered a broken foot in the season’s sixth game vs. Towson and was sidelined for the remainder of the campaign… Sparkled in the season opener, posting a career-best four-point game (1g, 2a) in the 4-2 win over Saint Mary’s… Assisted on the first two scores of the contest; then was credited with the game-winning goal on an unassisted score in the 68th minute… He is the team’s leading returning scorer with nine career goals and 22 points.

2007: Led the team with five goals and tied for the team leadership with 12 points (tied for fifth in America East)?... Also knotted up with Kevin Gnatiko in shots with 29... Competed in all 20 games and started 15, including all eight America East matches... His first goal of the season was a game-winning goal in the 1-0 win over Iona on Sept. 9... Produced his second career two-goal effort , scoring the first and third goals in the 3-0 win at Mount St. Mary’s on Oct. 2... Scored the game’s second goal in shutout league wins over Stony Brook (4-0, Oct. 6)?and Maine (3-0, Oct. 13)... Added his first career assist vs. the Seawolves to produce his third career multi-point game... In two seasons, UMBC is 6-0-1 when Gilllis hits the scoring column.

2006: Named to the America East All-Rookie team... Finished fourth on the team with three goals... Also fourth with 18 shots... Capped the campaign with a two-goal effort in the 5-2 win over Hartford... Scored the game-winning (third)?goal and an insurance goal with 54 seconds remaining... His first goal also occured in league play, as he put UMBC ahead 1-0 in the 38th minute vs. Boston University... Played in 15 games and started four times.

BACKGROUND: Another forward in the line of outstanding Baltimore-area products to attend UMBC (Celenza, McElligott, Mezzadra)… In 2005, he led the No. 8 Perry Hall Gators to an 11-2 season with a team-high 14 goals and eight assists… Scored big goals on a regular basis and was equally effective in setting up teammates when the added attention came his way… A first-team All-State selection who scored in 11 of the team's 13 games… Hit the nets in the Gators' win over No. 1 Loyola... Scored two goals and added two assists against Archbishop Curley and had a three-goal performance against Baltimore County rival Hereford… Earned first-team All-Metro honors from The Baltimore Sun as a senior and is a two-time All-County and All-Conference selection… Enjoys playing in front of large crowds… Lists favorite pro team as AC Milan and favorite movie as “Gladiator”… Chose UMBC for its coaches and facilities… The third-oldest of six children… Son of Lynda and Ron Gillis… Born July 17, 1988.
