2017: Competed in seven games at midfield and as a back-up face-off specialist… Won a pair of draws (2-3) at Hopkins on Feb. 11… Scored on his lone shot of the game in victory over Mercer on Feb. 25… Assisted on Gunnar Schimoler’s game-opening goal in UMBC’s 7-6 America East victory over Binghamton on April 15.
2016: Led the Retrievers with four man-up goals… Played as an offensive midfielder and saw face-off duties in 10 of 14 games he competed in… Scored his first two goals in the third game of the year at Towson, then tallied a season-high three points (2-1-3) in the home-opening victory over Marist… Earned his first collegiate start versus the Red Foxes and put five of his game-high seven shots on cage… Scored game-tying goal with 2:15 remaining in the fourth quarter to send the game to extra time… Scored single goals versus Binghamton, Stony Brook and Lafayette… Won a season-high six draws at Mount St. Mary’s.
Background: Named a 2015 U.S. Lacrosse All- American… Totaled 51 points as a senior (38g, 13a), won 105 of 170 (61.8 percent) of his face-offs and scooped up a team-high 89 ground balls… Also served as Yorktown’s captain in 2015 and was a key member of the New York State (Class B) Championship team in 2014… Tabbed an All-Section midfielder, the 2015 Yorktown HS Male Athlete of the Year and Examiner News’ Athlete of the Year… Scored career-high seven goals versus Somers in a 2015 game… A two-sport athlete in high school, playing quarterback on the football team and earning All-Conference and All-Section honors on the gridiron… A New York state Scholar-Athlete in 2013 and 2014… Has a younger sister, Lindsay, and younger brother, Jack… Lists favorite professional team as the NBA’s Washington Wizards… Enjoys fishing and is an avid juggler… Son of Joann and Tom Baker.
