Accolades:  (2017) Tabbed to America East Winter/Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll... Named America East Defensive Player of the Week (April 3)… Selected as a team captain. (2016) Named to America East Conference Winter-Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll. (2014) Earned a place on America East Conference Winter-Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll.  

 

2017: Started all 14 games in the cage for UMBC and played all but 17 seconds during his final campaign… Ranked 17th nationally with a 9.00 goals against average… After a rocky start versus three nationally-ranked foes, stopped a season-best 14 Mercer shots and allowed only four goals in a 15-4 victory on Feb. 25… Stopped nine River Hawk shots, collected three ground balls and caused a turnover in UMBC’s 10-5 victory over UMass Lowell on April 1, earning AE Defensive Player of the Week honors… Stopped 59 of 100 shots and permitted just 6.5 goals per game as UMBC won four of six games from Feb. 25-April 1… Made 13 saves (and allowed 10 goals) in setbacks at Michigan (March 25) and Albany (April 8)… Completed his career with 316 saves, climbing to eighth-place on UMBC’s all-time list. 

 

2016: Appeared in 11 games and made the final eight starts of the campaign… Posted a record of 4-5 and a goals-against average of 10.95… Earned UMBC’s first win in relief, allowing just one goal and making five saves in 9-8 overtime win over Marist on March 12… Collected 16 saves vs. Johns Hopkins on March 30… Tied that mark with a brilliant 16-save, 8-goals allowed effort versus Penn on April 19… Finished third in America East in saves per game with 10.18.

 

2015: Saw his first action of the campaign when he was tabbed as the starter in UMBC’s second America East game at Stony Brook on March 21… Stopped nine Seawolves’ shots and kept UMBC within striking distance until very late in the contest… Recorded his first victory when he made 11 saves in an 11-8 victory over Mount St. Mary’s three days later… Then, rejected 17 Lafayette attempts in an 18-7 victory on March 27… Gobbled up a season-best four ground balls in that effort… The 17 saves were the most for a UMBC goalkeeper since Jeremy Blevins made 20 stops versus Denver in 2008… Scored a goal on a 90-yard heave to end the third quarter as the host Retrievers defeated U Mass Lowell, 13-7, on April 18… Started the final seven games of the season, posting a 52.4 save percentage (fourth amongst AE goalkeepers)… His 10.83 saves per game and 10.69 goals against average ranked second amongst league netminders.

 

2014: Earned the No. 2 netminder position and competed in eight games during his initial season… Made his debut in the opening game at Maryland… Earned his first career stop and added a pair of ground balls in the triumph over Mercer… Played a season-high 10:05 in the America East title game… Made a season-high two saves in the finale. 

 

Background: A First Team All-County selection by The Capital Gazette in 2013… Finished the season with a .628 save percentage and allowed only 5.5 goals per game for Chesapeake, coached by UMBC alum Rodney Beres… Made 19 saves in a 2013 7-6 upset over Severn…Favorite sports team is the Washington Capitals… Son of Rudy Souder and Alisa Higgs.
